Alberto Contador Hesitant to Ride with Lance Armstrong

Alberto Contador, winner of three recent cycling tours: 2008 Vuelta a EspaƱa, 2008 Giro d’Italia and 2007 Tour de France, hinted that he may quit the Astana team if it hires Lance Armstrong, who is coming out of retirement.
The Spaniard was asked by the sports newspaper AS about how he would feel if the Armstrong joins Astana.
“It would be quite complicated. I think I’ve earned the right to be the leader of a team without having to fight for it,” he said in the interview published Tuesday. “And with Armstrong, there could be difficult situations in which the team would put him first and that would harm me.”
“I will base my decision on what he says,” the Spaniard said. “I intend to stay because I am under contract until 2010, but I have received a good many offers from other teams.”
It’s apparent that he wants to win the 2009 Tour de France and would not allow the chance to be taken away with Armstrong on his team.
Lance Armstrong will be making an announcement in a press conference on the 24th of September 2008, which will probably decide the fate of Alberto Contador.
